Review: Evernight by Claudia Gray

Evernight (Evernight #1) by Claudia Gray

Summary:
Bianca Olivier just got herself in the most prestigious school in town, Evernight Academy, thanks to her parents. It is a private school that only accepts the sleekest, smartest, and not to mention the richest students and Bianca knows that she doesn’t belong there. As Bianca attempts to escape, she accidentally bumps into Lucas Ross, another transferee student of the academy who turns out to be someone who has deep secrets of his own. Like Bianca, Lucas despises the school, its rules, bitches and snobs, he even warns Bianca to be careful –even when it comes to caring about him. But the attraction between them can’t be denied. Bianca will do anything just to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart as Bianca questions everything she’s ever believed.

Pros:
• Good writing style. I love the twist of the story. Especially about Bianca and Lucas
• As I said earlier, Gray’s writing style was so good that you’ll be caught up in the emotion of the story as if you’re really there.

Cons:
• The pace of the story was kind of slow.
• Too much focus on the relationship between Bianca and Lucas to the point that the main plot of story was revealed at the later part of the book.

Cover:
The bloody red cover made me deny that the book was actually about vampires; though its black gothic title suits the background. The main cover may not be eye catching, but the title is enough to make me want to buy it.

Plot:
Somehow, this story reminds me of another famous vampire book BUT definitely in a very good way (trust me on this). If this will be put into the big screen, there is a big possibility that it would be blockbuster hit movie (take note of the word “possibility” since most of directors nowadays has a knack for turning good novels into disastrous movies) . The author made a good choice in setting her plot and stops the vampire team up with an ordinary human.

Character Development:
Bianca desperately wants to escape the academy that made a lot of changes in her life; if it wasn’t for Lucas she might have already left the academy and her family. The friendship between them quickly develops and evolves into an enticing first love; But Lucas isn’t like the other guys. It was hard to tell who the vampire is or who will be the vampire and that’s a good cover up.

Over All Rating
Over all, the book was a fun read. Although there were boring parts, the endless questions that appeared were enough to keep me reading until the end. I’m looking forward for the next book, and hopefully, it will be better than this one.
